ARTIST INFO:
Clyde Ball
Born and
raised in Indiana. Spent two years at Iowa State (planning to
be a veterinarian - which didn’t happen, but found a beautiful
Iowa farm girl to be his wife, and they are now in their 54th~
year of marriage). Graduated Utah State 1953 — and as an
antiaircraft
artillery lieutenant defended Baltimore for two years (it must
be noted that there were no Russian air attacks during that period),
and then attended the Art Institute of Chicago on the GI Bill.
For several years he worked for the West Bend Company as a salesman/sales
manager, but since the mid sixties he, and his wife (also an
artist), have been full time artists, exploring the mediums of
drawing, prints, painting, and sculpture.
Was there a particular inspiration for his sculpture Fountainhead?
No. When starting a piece, in whatever medium, his only purpose
is to create an object that works for him and somehow satisfies
his artistic psyche.
His artist’s statement: I start with nothing, end with something
and usually enjoy the trip. |
“Fountainhead”
was purchased by Dr. Enrique and Mrs. Janet Schwarz in 1970.
On a
recent trip to Saugatuck, they decided to donate Clyde’s
sculpture back to his community.
Unbeknownst to Clyde, his sculpture was juried into the 2005
exhibit, and now is a
permanent part of Art Round Town and the community’s collection. |
