ARTIST INFO: In these metallic forms I have combined several life-long interests and persistent passions. I have merged painting and sculpture with aspects of nature and technology to allow me a newly realized and expanded freedom of artistic expression. Working with metal presents a major commitment and challenge to the sculptor. The weight and inflexibility of metal imposes stringent demands yet it is this very quality that allows the artist such a wide range of expressive liberties not possible with any other material. A heightened element color is achieved by the application of patinas, paint and hand-formed glass. It is highly inspiring for me to create visually poetic and visually rhythmic art works out of crude resources extracted from the earth. My current theme deals with abstractly drawn elements appearing to undergo intense forces of nature. They are used symbolically to express my observations of various insurmountable forces which earthly life must endure over its ongoing, mysterious evolution. Through the stimulus of the creative process and a positive response from the public I feel an enduring inspiration and a link with all life and all time. |
