ARTIST INFO: I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Italy, where I grew up. A t the age of twentyone I moved to the United States. Having more than one place I call home has given me a broad perspective about people, their cultures and their experiences. Having artistic roots in both Ancient Europe and the New World has also been a key to my identity as an artist, as I have approached a contemporary style of figurative sculpture from a classical background. My artwork is figurative and mostly modeled in clay and subseque ntly cast in bronze or other media such as hydrocal, plaster and polyester resin. Typically my sculpture is small to medium pedestal bound sculpture. I am interested in working from direct observation of the live model. However, sometimes I combine abstract ideas with the human figure. I find the juxtaposition of diverse materials and processes very exciting. My sculpture generally addresses fundamental aspects of my own life experiences as a woman. Auroras Gift is a maquette for a larger, life size bronze that never came to fruition. It is the human personification of light, a metaphor for knowledge. |
