ARTIST INFO:
Sergio DeGiusti

In my work I try to create images that evoke fantasies of tomb sculptures, slabs,
columns, commemorative stones and architectural fragments and the anthropological rituals from many different cultures. I draw from endless variety of symbols that record and depict the history of mankind.

The work in this year’s two hanging relief panels “The Arts” deals with images of music, opera, theater, ballet and conducting.

Historically mankind has always erected monuments to mark or commemorate events. In my work I try to create images that evoke references to ancient stones, columns or funerary markers. I am interested in the images and symbols depicted in a "Stela" similar to those of the ancient Maya. My column has figurative elements such as a human head, a hand and the fragment of a female figure. There are suggestions on the surface of meandering rivers anthropological markings and geological erosions on our planet.
