William Tye
William Tye is a sculptor
with over thirty five years of experience in making cast bronze
sculpture. Tye holds advanced degrees in sculpture from both
Wayne State University, MA, 1967 and Western Michigan University,
MFA, 1977.
Currently Tye is president
of the Alchemist Tye Studio, Inc., a bronze casting foundry in
Kalamazoo, Michigan, which specializes in fine art casting and
mold making for professional artists. The Alchemist produces
work for William and Karla Tye, Kirk Newman, Stephen Hansen,
Carole Harrison and Frank Gallo among others. |

Tye's exhibition background
includes over thirty juried competitions national, regional and
local scope since 1 965. His sculpture won an award in the all
State Competition in Battle Creek and his first public commission
is on view in Battle Creek Michigan. Exhibitions of note include:
Krasl Sculpture Invitational, All Michigan 1998 and Regional
2000; Michigan Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Business Consortium
for the Arts, Southfield, Michigan and the Kalamazoo Institute
of Arts, a one man exhibition. Tye continues to exhibit regularly
at the Park Gallery, Kalamazoo; Cain Gallery in Saugatuck, MI;
Mattix Gallery in Chicago and TRA Gallery in Detroit.
Tye completed two life size
standing portraits of Walter P. Reuther in 1998, for the Walter
Reuther Library at Wayne State University and the UAW Black Lake
Retreat in Black Lake Ml.
Tye's sculpture is in the
collections of the Krasl Art Center St. Joseph, MI.

The University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C.
The City of Battle Creek, MI.
The Sturgis Council for the Arts as well as numerous private
collections.

Tye has recently retired after 20 years from the Alchemist-Tye
Studio, Inc., a bronze casting foundry located in Kalamazoo,
Ml.
Tyes exhibition background includes over thirty juried
competitions: national, regional and local in scope since 1965.
His sculpture won an award in the All State Competition in Battle
Creek, Ml. and his first public commission is on view in downtown
Battle Creek.
Recently Tyes three life sized figures Steps of the
Dance received The Peoples Choice Award in
Saugatuck, Ml., Art round Town Exhibition, 2002.
Tye completed two life size standing portraits of Walter P. Reuther
in 1998, for the Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University
and the UAW s Retreat in Black Lake, Ml. Tyes sculpture
is in the collections of the Art Round Town, Saugatuck,
Ml., Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph, MI., Wayne State University,
Detroit, MI., Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Ml.,The
University of South Carolina, Columbia, S. C., The Sturgis Council
for the Arts and numerous private collections.
