After six years in the Marines as a demolitions expert I made the unlikely transition to a career as a jewelry designer in 1993. That same year I won first prize in the Michigan Jewelers' Association annual design competition. By 1995 I had decide to work on a somewhat larger scale designing and making tables, lamps and other decorative accessories. In the year 2000 I branched out into larger sculptural pieces in mixed metals and stone.

Over the years I have supplemented my income from art with a number of jobs that have brought me in contact with many skilled artisans. They have taught me tricks of the trade and techniques in engineering, construction, metal forming and welding.
Half of the fun of working in metal has been the association with other people who enjoy the same things I enjoy. I feel very fortunate to be able to pursue a career that brings me so much personal satisfaction. I enjoy designing a piece, making it and watching people respond to my creations. Who could ask for more?
I am not tied to a particular style when I design. Some of my sculptures are clear to me from the very beginning and some pieces evolve as I work with the materials. Some of the ideas are about form, volume, and balance. Others are whimsical and are meant to make people smile. Although I am serious about creating art, my art is rarely serious.
Working in three-dimensional art provides endless opportunities and challenges. I am anxious to explore a number of new design possibilities in the future, including experimentation with additional combinations of materials, playing with motion, and perhaps even sound.
