SAUGATUCK & DOUGLAS MICHIGAN USA

A PROJECT TO BRING SCULPTURE TO THE STREETS OF OUR COMMUNITY
Welcome to "art 'round town"; our project to bring sculpture to the streets of our village, Saugatuck Michigan.

Tucked into sandy dunes on the southeast coast of Lake Michigan and dubbed the "art coast of Michigan", the Saugatuck area has inspired artists since the founding of the Ox-Bow School, now affiliated with the Art Institute Of Chicago, near the turn of the last century. Victorian homes, built by lumber barons, are now B&B's and art galleries. There are more art galleries per capita than of any small town in the Midwest. In addition to being named one of the top 8 most popular art destinations in the U.S., The Best Little Art Towns in the U.S. named Saugatuck in the top 100 art communities in the States.

CALL FOR ARTISTS:
If you are an outdoor sculpture artist and would like to have your work included in our next "artwalk" and available for sale to our visitors, please visit our APPLICATION page for entry forms and information.

 ADDITIONAL INFO:

The Saugatuck, Michigan area, voted by the readers of "American Style" magazine as the No. 8 top arts destination area in the U.S. in 2000, (Washington, D.C. No. 7 and New Orleans, No. 9), will inaugurate a year-long outdoor public art program in June, 2001.

Called Art 'Round Town (A.R.T.), the organizers have asked artists from all over the United States to submit works of sculpture of any medium that are large enough for public display and will withstand Midwest winters. A blue ribbon panel will jury all work and entries must be appropriate to a family oriented community. Not only will sculptors have the opportunity to show their work to art connoisseurs, and the work will be offered for sale. At the end of a year, all unsold pieces will be returned to the artists and a new series of artwork will begin the program anew.

The idea behind Art 'Round Town is simple:

1) expose art patrons to outdoor art, 2) artists agree to loan art to Art 'Round Town for a year,
3) the sculptures are for sale and can be purchased by private or public parties, 4) the A.R.T. Organization will display and insure the sculpture in the exhibit, 5) A.R.T. will advertise and promote the art and the artists and 6) A.R.T. will handle all the financial transactions.
